Last week, Dr. Lisa Coons, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, visited classrooms at the Chesapeake Career Center and Grassfield High School, viewing the CTE program and Grassfield’s STEM Academy. She was encouraged to see students in these programs engaging in real-life experiences. We are very proud that she sees our efforts in CTE as an exemplary model for other school systems.

For the third consecutive summer, the Department of Career and Technical Education will be hosting the “Grow Our Own” summer internship program. Students have the opportunity to get paid for working 40 hours in a variety of CPS departments. The online application window closes this Friday, April 19, 2024. We are proud to present the 2024 Spring Art Show! The Elementary Spring Art Show will take place at the Chesapeake Central Library through April 23, 2024. The Secondary Spring Art Show will take place at the Chesapeake Central Library from May 2-14, 2024. Winners will be announced on May 14, 2024 and artists will be recognized and celebrated at their schools during academic awards assemblies and end of the year events. Click here for more information.
We are looking for citizens interested in applying to participate in one of our advisory committees. Each advisory committee works in one of the following areas: career and technical education, gifted education, school health, special education, and Title I programming. All Chesapeake Public Schools students are invited to Grassfield High School’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Information Night. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. There will be food trucks beginning at 4:30 p.m., entertainment, and a program.
