IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL FAMILIES

Chittum students smiling and winning the semifinals.

πŸ“š March is Reading Month, and several of our elementary schools have been showcasing their literary talents at the Battle of the Books at the Chesapeake Central Library. Congratulations to E.W. Chittum Elementary for taking home first place and advancing to the final round alongside Great Bridge Intermediate and Hickory Elementary. The student championship finals will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chesapeake Central Library. This year’s student final is even more special thanks to Kwame Alexander, a celebrated author from Chesapeake. Through his efforts, each of the featured authors whose books were selected for the competition will make a guest appearance at the finals! Plus, all finalist schools will receive an exclusive author visit on Friday, April 11, 2025. ✨

Chittum Elementary staff also won and received a $1,000 donation from the Friends of the Chesapeake Library. Congratulations, and thank you to all of the schools and staff that hosted teams and participated in the event.

πŸ’œ April is the Month of the Military Child πŸ’œ

At the School Board meeting on Monday, March 24, 2025, the Board approved a resolution related to our military students. The resolution designates April 2025 as the Month of the Military Child. Students are encouraged to dress in purple on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in celebration of β€œPurple Up! for Military Kids” Day. The day pays tribute to the sacrifices of the members of our military community and their families. Purple represents the blending of the colors of the five branches of our armed forces. Here in Virginia, we are proud to be home to the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force, and National Guard and Reserve families. Click here for more information and use #PurpleUpVA for social media posts.

Also, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, all families with active duty and retired military members are invited to attend our annual Operation Military Families event. The event will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Grassfield High School. See more information here.
