Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing winter break. I am excited to be back at school after maternity leave and truly appreciate the support and kindness shown by our community during this time. It has been a joy returning to our building and seeing our students and staff again.
The start of a new year is a wonderful opportunity for students to refocus, reset goals, and recommit to their learning. As we move into the second half of the school year, your support in encouraging positive habits at home and school continues to make a meaningful difference.
As we begin the new year, planning is already underway for the 2026–2027 school year. School counselors will be working with students during the month of January to assist with elective course selection. Indian River High School will be hosting a Scheduling Night for 8th graders and their parents/guardians on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 6:30 PM in the Indian River High School Auditorium. Additional details related to the scheduling process will be posted on the school website. We encourage families to review this information carefully as we prepare for the upcoming school year.
Throughout the month of January, some students will participate in VALLSS mid-year testing. This assessment helps us monitor student progress and guide instruction to best support their learning.
Study hall and remediation opportunities are available for students who may need additional academic support. These supports provide time for students to complete assignments, receive extra help, and strengthen their understanding of key skills. We encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities and families to partner with us if additional support is needed. Please reach out to your students teacher, counselor or the main office for more information regarding these programs.
As always, we appreciate your partnership in reinforcing our school expectations. We ask that students continue to demonstrate good behavior, follow school rules, treat peers and schools staff with respect and kindness, and take responsibility for completing their work each day. Being a good student means giving their best effort both academically and behaviorally.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a successful and productive start of 2026!
Go Braves,
Brenna Stanley Principal

No Loitering at the Indian River Library or Indian River Rec Center
Kindly remind your student that loitering is not permitted in the library or rec center parking lots, as well as at the rec center's picnic tables after school or during game days. Should your student wish to utilize the library after school, a permission slip, available at the Indian River Library, must be completed by the parent and submitted to the library. For access to the rec center, parents must complete the student membership form available at the rec center. Your cooperation in encouraging students to adhere to these rules is crucial for their safety! Thanks for your assistance!
