As a reminder, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, is an Asynchronous Remote Learning Day for all students.

Due to the special election taking place across the Commonwealth of Virginia on Tuesday, Chesapeake Public Schools will implement an Asynchronous Remote Learning Day for all students.  All schools will be closed to students on April 21, 2026, as many of our school buildings serve as public polling locations. This calendar adjustment was approved by the School Board during its March 23, 2026, meeting to ensure a safe and secure environment for both our students and the community. 

Chromebooks (K, 1st & 2nd students) and information from teachers will come home on Monday. 

School Nutrition Services will provide meals for any Chesapeake Public Schools student at WBP (dine-in only) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

An important part of teaching routines and procedures here at school is practicing our safety drills. We practice these drills to ensure that our students, faculty, and staff know how to respond in the event of an emergency. This week, we will be holding a lockdown drill.  During our drill, you will not be able to access our building for approximately 15 minutes. 

During a “Lockdown,” we follow “Locks, Lights and Out of Sight”.  The hallways are cleared of students and staff, doors are locked, and windows are covered. Students will go to the hard corner identified in the classroom.  Students have already been taught procedures for this drill, and we are confident they will do a wonderful job putting what they’ve learned into practice.

Please take a moment to remind your child how important it is to follow directions the first time they are given, especially during safety drills.

Join us on Sunday, April 26, from 2:00–4:00 PM for a fun-filled afternoon the whole family will enjoy! Our school carnival will feature exciting games, face painting, delicious treats, and a bounce house obstacle course that’s sure to keep our Bruins moving. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect and celebrate together as a school community. Bring your friends and family and come ready for an afternoon of fun—we can’t wait to see you there!

Bike Safety Week is May 4th-7th.  Riding a bike is a fun way to get around and exercise.  Create a poster on bike safety to share at school.  A winner will be selected from each grade level.   Posters are due to Ms. A. by Thursday, May 7th.  

Western Branch Primary is excited to announce this year’s Field Day on Friday, May 1st, and we are asking for your help! 

It’s that time of the year - Field Day Fun!  We are asking for station volunteers and donations as we fill the day with activities, games, and A LOT of laughter during our Field Day.  Here’s a little info for you to keep in mind.

**NOTE: You will not be moving around the stations with your child.  You will be running the station you sign up for and only at the time that you choose.

*For those who sign up to volunteer, we will already have you checked in and your visitor badge printed.  Please bring your I.D., enter through the front entrance, check in at the security desk, and head out to the soccer field!*

Chesapeake Public Schools’ Preschool Initiative (CPI) offers a free, full-day program for children who turn 4 by September 30, 2026. Using the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) curriculum, CPI builds a strong academic and social foundation for kindergarten.

Pre-registration for the 2026–2027 school year is now open! Families are encouraged to watch the Early Learning Opportunities webinar to learn more about CPI and other programs that support school readiness.

HOURS: Western Branch Primary will begin accepting students at 7:15 a.m. Classes begin at 7:35 a.m. Students are considered tardy when they arrive after 7:35. We dismiss at 2:04. Our office hours are 7:00-3:00 each day.
